Wedding Talisman

Connecting to other lives in a nested, non-linear complex world...
Does artistic talent run in families? I don’t know…but I do know that I’ve been inspired by the artworks created by various members of my family. This album contains my own art and some from family members.
Created as part of a metalworks class in '96, this talisman was made for my mother-in-law on the occasion of our wedding. The two-toned blue stone (tourmaline) represents the mountains and sea -- my home and that of my husband. The seed pod is a replica of wild yam. Technically, this is the most challenging piece I've ever made. It has many different solder joints and the rim took over eight hours to configure -- with lots of annealing to get the metal bent in the right direction. And yet, I made a B in the class.
