STEM, or Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics education is the shorthand acronym used by granting agencies like NSF to refer to a common core of courses and content needed by students to live in our world today. I co-opted the use of STEM and added Relevant…because I believe ethnobiology is the science that makes STEM educational content have meaning in the context of the lives of most people. Ethnobiology as a science considers the human alongside the rest of the organisms, something which was frustratingly omitted from most science courses I took.
